How do I manage my discussions?

Manage discussions

Via the forum and topic menu you can easily add, delete or edit a forum/topic.

Forum

  • Go to Course Tools in your navigation bar and click Discussion to access the Discussion homepage.
  • Click Add topic to add topics.
  • Click Collapse Forum to collapse the topics or Expand Forum to un-hide the topics.
  • Click Edit Forum to edit the forum.
  • Click Hide from users to make the forum invisible to students.
  • Click View Forum Statistics to go to the statistics page.
  • Click Subscribe to subscribe or unsubscribe from forum updates.
  • Click Delete to delete the forum.

Topic

  • Click on the arrow behind a topic's name.
  • Click 'View Topic' to view the topic. Note: if you click on the title of the topic, you also view the topic.
  • Click 'View Topic in Grid View' for a clear overview of topic activity (what content has been read/unread, who is actively participating, etc.).
  • Click 'Edit Topic' to edit the topic.
  • Click 'Hide from users' to make the topic invisible to students.
  • Click on 'View Topic Statistics' to go to the statistics page.
  • Click 'Manage Exemptions' to exempt specific students.
  • Click 'Subscribe' to subscribe or unsubscribe to topic updates.
  • Click 'Delete' to delete the topic.

Moderate discussions

As moderator of the discussions, you decide whether or not messages (publications) from students will be posted. You can set this for all messages at once or for each message separately.

As a teacher, approve all posts

When creating forums and topics, you can set the publications to only become visible to others after your approval. This can be done for all topics within a forum (when creating/editing a forum), as well as for selected topics (when creating/editing a topic).

  • Click New: forum or topic or
  • Edit Forum or Topic.

• Under Options, check the third option. This means that publications only become visible to the other students after you have approved them.

By report

You can also edit or delete each post individually, both at the thread and post level.

  • Go to Course Tools in your navigation bar and click Discussion to access the Discussion homepage.
  • Click on a topic.
  1. Click on the arrow next to the name of the thread or publication.
  2. Click Edit Thread(/Publication) to edit the text.
  3. Click Delete Thread(/Publication) to delete a post.
