How do I use the Pulse app?

Brightspace Pulse

Both teachers and students can use the Pulse app. The app works on both iOS and Android and can be accessed on phones and tablets. You can use the app to easily view your courses and course components, upcoming activities, and your notifications, on your device. The app contains three main sections: CoursesNotifications and Schedule.

  • Note: This instruction was created using an Android device. On an iOS device, the interface of the app may differ from the images below. Pulse uses the phone's default language, you can change the language settings of Pulse by navigating to Pulse within your phone settings and then adjusting the preferred language (iOS).
  • Download the Pulse app from the Playstore or App Store.
  • Open the app.
  • Select and pick your school, you have to choose 'Hogeschool Rotterdam' as the institution, and then you log in.
  1. By default, you will be navigated to Courses, it is the screen in which your courses are listed.
  2. Click on a course to see which components are available in that course. Please note: Unfortunately, it is not possible to filter your courses.
  3. Click Notifications to view your notifications. When there are new notifications there will be an orange dot.
  4. Click Upcoming (it  is a schedule) to view past and upcoming activities and events. You can also add your own activities here.
  5. By clicking on the Pin icon you can pin courses, just like on the desktop version. The pinned courses then appear at the top of your screen. This might be useful to create an overview and can help keep your courses organized.

Under the Subscriptions tab, you'll only see text posted in the discussion. When it comes to images (and other types of media) you will receive a message/notification of it in the text, but, you will still need to open the discussion in your browser to view them.

You can set up and adjust your settings to ensure you will receive push notifications from Pulse. To do this, you need to indicate in your phone's settings that you want to receive notifications from Pulse and that Pulse is allowed to refresh in the background. You will then receive notifications on:

  • Content Overview documents: new content that teachers have added to the Overview of a course;
