Similar to a discussion forum, you can limit the accessibility of a topic in two ways:
- You can use release conditions (Release voorwaarden) to determine when the topic is available. You can also attach multiple release conditions to a topic.
- You can use Group and section conditions to determine for who the topic is available to.
- Navigate to Course Tools in your course's navbar.
- Click Discussions. You land on the Discussions homepage (Discussies homepage)
- Click on the arrow behind the desired topic.
- Click Edit Topic.
How do I add restrictions to a discussion topic?
- Click Restrictions (second tab).
- Check Hide from users to make the topic invisible to students.
- Under Availability, you can choose between the options under Has a start date:
- The topic is visible to students before the start date, but they can't access it yet.
- The topic is visible and accessible to students before the start date, but they cannot provide threads or replies.
- The subject is not visible to students before the start date.
- Under Availability, you can choose between the options under Has an end date:
- The topic is visible to students after the due date, but they cannot access it.
- The topic is visible and accessible to students after the due date, but they cannot provide threads or replies.
- The subject is not visible to students after the due date.
- Check Show in calendar if you want these dates to appear in the student's calendar.
- Under Release conditions you can add conditions when the topic is available:
- Click Attach Existing if you have previously created release conditions that you would like to add to this.
- Select the desired conditions.
- Click Link.

- Select the desired conditions.
- Click Create.

- Click Attach Existing if you have previously created release conditions that you would like to add to this.
- Choose from the drop-down menu whether students must meet one condition or all conditions before they can access the topic.
- Under Group and section restrictions you can add conditions for whom the topic is available:
- Check Restrict this topic to the following groups and sections to allow specific groups to access the topic.
- Click Add groups and sections and select the desired group or section. Then click Add.
- The group(s) and/or section(s) are shown below.
- Click Save and Close to return to the Discussions homepage. Click on Save and new to create another topic.
